Aida Rostami

Dr. Aida Rostami was a 36-year-old physician from a family with roots in Gorgan who lived and worked in Tehran. During the 2022 Woman, Life, Freedom protests she secretly treated wounded protesters who feared arrest if they went to hospitals.

On the evening of 12 December 2022 she called her mother after a shift at Chamran Hospital and said she was on her way. According to IranWire and other human-rights reporting, she had gone to Ekbatan to treat injured protesters and left to fetch medical supplies, then disappeared. The next day, police told her family she had died in a “car accident” and directed them to collect her body. Relatives described severe facial injuries, a broken arm, and damage to one eye. Medical examiners reportedly told the family, off the record, that it was not a traffic accident and that they had been ordered not to state the true cause.

State narratives later shifted among accident, suicide, and a claimed personal quarrel. Independent outlets and the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center document her death as an extrajudicial killing tied to her medical aid for protesters. She was buried in Gorgan.
