Memorial story

Ali Akbar Barahui

Ali Akbar Barahui, also listed in many reports simply as Ali Barahui, was about fourteen years old and from Zahedan in Sistan and Baluchestan. On Friday 8 Mehr 1401 (30 September 2022), known as Zahedan's Bloody Friday, security forces opened fire with live ammunition on worshippers and protesters at the Makki Mosque Mosalla. BBC Persian and later anniversary reporting say he was struck in the head and neck and killed that day. A BBC source noted that he had no national ID booklet, one of many Baluch children killed without papers whose names took longer to document. Iran International and Rasd Balochistan include him among the child victims of that massacre. Independent tallies of those killed that Friday run far above the official figure of twenty-five.
