Memorial story
Dariush Alizadeh
Dariush Alizadeh (21 Tir 1368 / 12 July 1989 – 16 Mehr 1401 / 8 October 2022) was a 33-year-old from Sanandaj who lived with his mother. On Saturday 16 Mehr 1401, a day of nationwide protest calls, he went out to buy pasta she had asked for, brought it home, and went out again. He never returned. Witnesses told Radio Zamaneh that around Tapeh Baharmast / Rokhzad alley in central Sanandaj, security forces fired live rounds on demonstrators. A bullet hit Dariush in the thigh; he bled heavily, called relatives for help, and was carried through alleys toward Kowsar Hospital. One witness said an agent kicked him in the stomach as he lay dying and shouted for him to get up. He died despite resuscitation. Fearing the body would be withheld, the family took him that night to their village Qala Kawn (Qal‘eh Kohneh) in the Obatu area and buried him under forensic delay and intelligence threats that tried to force a return to Sanandaj. Authorities later told the family “groups” had killed him; witnesses and relatives reject that. The same day Yahya Rahimi, Peyman Manbari and Mohammad Amini were also killed in Sanandaj. Radio Zamaneh’s long memorial, with family and eyewitness testimony, is the main personal record; Independent Persian later covered mourning mothers who flowered the killing sites when anniversary ceremonies were banned.
