Nima Shafighdoost

Nima Shafighdoost (Persian: نیما شفیق‌دوست; also reported as Nima Shafaqdoost, and listed by Amnesty International as Aslan (Nima) Shafaghdoost) was a schoolboy of about sixteen. He was born around 1385 in Zindasht village in the Salmas area and lived with his family in Urmia (ارومیه), West Azerbaijan. Most sources give his age as 16; Amnesty's Lives Cut Brutally Short lists him as 17.

During the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising he was badly wounded by direct fire from security forces during protests in Urmia against the killing of Jina (Mahsa) Amini. Hengaw's informed source placed the shooting in the city's Keshtargah neighborhood; his mother, speaking to KHRN, said he was shot in the legs in Eslamabad. Amnesty and HRANA date the shooting to 21 September 2022. Fearing arrest at hospital, the family treated him secretly in the basement of his father's home and at a private clinic for about twelve days. Security forces then identified him and arrested him at home, and despite his grave condition officers refused to take him to hospital. After his arrest the family had no news of him despite constant inquiries.

On Wednesday 13 Mehr 1401 (5 October 2022), security bodies summoned the family and handed over his body, and threatened them not to publicize the news, Hengaw reported the next day. The Urmia police commander claimed he had been bitten by a dog about three weeks earlier, had refused further hospital treatment and died of the infection. His mother publicly rejected that story and said the family had been forced to repeat it. His father, Behrouz Shafighdoost, died of a heart attack shortly after the family's coerced statements.

Amnesty International's 2026 report Lives Cut Brutally Short lists ASLAN (NIMA) SHAFAGHDOOST, age 17, fatal incident 21 September 2022, Urumieh, West Azerbaijan. HRANA's 82-day report lists Nima Shafagh Dost, 16, Urmia, 21 September 2022, bullet wound (under review; source Kurdpa) as #197 in its list of the dead and #22 among the children killed.
