Memorial story
Yahya Rahimi
Yahya Rahimi Sarab Shahraki ( یحیی رحیمی سراب شهرکی ) was a Kurdish tile worker from Sanandaj, about 31, married for roughly one year. Persian Wikipedia lists his birth as 9 Azar 1370 (30 November 1991). On 16 Mehr 1401 (8 October 2022), while driving to work on 6th Bahman (Pasdaran) Street, he filmed other drivers honking in protest and then honked himself. Independent reporting by BBC Persian, KHRN, and Radio Farda says plainclothes security agents smashed his car window and shot him in the head from close range. Graphic video of his body at the wheel spread nationwide. Regime outlets first called it a 'counter-revolution killing project' and later named another man; Yahya's father told journalists the judiciary eventually admitted the killer was from their own forces, and he refused blood money and forced 'martyr' registration. Authorities restricted the funeral to Behesht-e Mohammadi under heavy security. His 40th-day gathering on 26 Aban became a large protest (and coincided with his first wedding anniversary).
