On Thursday, 8 January 2026 (18 Dey 1404), during the nationwide protests, he was shot in the neck by Islamic Republic security forces in Andisheh, in Shahriar County near Fardis on the western edge of Karaj, and was killed at the age of 36. One Witness Report account places the shooting on the evening of Friday 19 Dey; his family, HRANA and Iran International's Javidnaman give 18 Dey. HRANA has confirmed his death, and his name appears, with his father's name, on the list of the dead published by the Iranian government. NCRI and Javidnaman list his age as 37.
He was buried on 13 January 2026 (23 Dey 1404) at Behesht-e Rezvan cemetery in Shahriar. Two young men from Andisheh killed in the same days, his longtime neighbour Pouria Kheiri and Sina Alizadegan, were laid to rest beside him. According to his brother, Komeil's last request was that if he were killed, his family should not let his name be forgotten; supporters carried his picture at the diaspora rally in Munich on 14 February 2026. At his fortieth-day memorial in Shahriar his mother said: "I gave my son as a gift to the homeland." His young son said: "I wish I had been shot instead of you."
