Record & remembrance

Dates, places, sources, and messages — the same details as the full profile, kept on this page.

Mehdi Bastani was 29 years old and lived in Tehran. In the Pirouzi (Piroozi) neighborhood, one of the city’s eastern districts where protests flared in January 2026, he was among the civilians cut down when security forces answered the streets with live fire.

Hengaw Organization for Human Rights verified that he was shot dead with a Kalashnikov rifle during protests in Pirouzi. His identity was confirmed together with six other people killed in Tehran’s crackdown of 8–9 January 2026, including Pouya Akbarzadeh in Dolatabad.

Public reporting beyond Hengaw’s verification remains sparse. What can be confirmed is this: a young man of twenty-nine, killed by military-style gunfire in his own city’s streets, whose name must not be reduced to a casualty line.
