Saman Fattahi was a well-known Kurdish athlete from Kermanshah (Kermashan) and a member of Iran's national taekwondo team. Hengaw Organization for Human Rights verified that on 8 January 2026 (18 Dey 1404) he was shot in the head with live ammunition in the city's Sabuni neighborhood during protests and died from his injuries.
He was a follower of the Yarsan faith; Hengaw noted he was the eighth Kurdish Yarsan adherent confirmed killed in the recent protests. Authorities withheld his body until his family paid 700 million tomans. He was buried on 11 January 2026 at Ragheh Sarab Tiran Cemetery in Kuzaran, Kermanshah.
The Iranian government's own published list of January 2026 dead includes him as Saman Fattahi, son of Ali Madad (row 791).
