Danial Diyani (also spelled Diani) was a 24-year-old law student from Kerman who had moved to Kermanshah (Kermashan) to study at Razi University. Relatives remembered him as a quiet, civically minded student, focused on his coursework and aware of citizens’ rights, who joined the streets of his hometown as the nationwide January 2026 protests spread.

On Thursday, 8 January 2026 (18 Dey 1404), he was killed by gunfire from Iranian government forces during protests in Kerman; memorial accounts say he was shot in the chest. His body was buried in Kerman on 10 January 2026 (20 Dey 1404).

At the funeral, his mother was filmed holding his photograph and crying out toward the Supreme Leader, words that circulated widely as a symbol of bereaved mothers’ grief and defiance. Hengaw Organization for Human Rights verified his identity among university students killed that week, including Sina Kazemi and Zahra Mahmoudpour.
