Negin Ghadimi was a 28-year-old biotechnology engineering graduate who loved painting, swimming, and books. Because of her father’s work she had lived in Bandar Abbas, Arak, and Sari; relatives say she longed for a free Iran and had nearly arranged to visit an uncle in Australia. On Friday evening, 9 January 2026 (19 Dey 1404), during protests in Tonekabon (Shahsavar), Mazandaran, her father asked her to stay home. She answered that she was coming to look after him. When tear gas scattered the crowd and he urged retreat, she took a step forward asking why they should turn back, “we have nothing left to lose.” Live rounds followed; a war bullet struck her side. Neighbours helped carry her into a nearby house, but continuous gunfire blocked a clinic. In her father’s arms she said, “Dad, I’m burning,” and died there. Her father later begged reporters: write about Negin, do not let her name be forgotten. IranWire and BBC Persian carried the family account; Hengaw listed her among Gilak dead and dated the killing 20 Dey / 10 January. The date given here is 19 Dey / 9 January. A friend’s memorial line asked how even peaceful words had been too much to bear.
