On 30 Shahrivar 1401 (21 September 2022), after coming home from work, he went to the protests despite his mother's warnings. A first-person text attributed to him and preserved on Persian Wikipedia says he went for all the parents, sisters and brothers and working children of the homeland. Persian Wikipedia places the shooting in Qaemshahr, where security forces opened fire with live ammunition; a bullet struck the back of his head and he fell. Amnesty International and HRANA give the place as Babol. The same text includes the words: "I will be buried with my dreams so that the seed of hope may sprout for my sisters and brothers."

He was buried in his home village. The grave registry Mazare Shaghayeghha records his resting place in lower Roshanabad village on the Ganj Afrooz road in Babol. On the second anniversary of his death, his mother published a video in which she performs a mourning dance holding his framed photograph, with the words "we continue", as reported by Xebat Media, the outlet of the Khabat Organization of Iranian Kurdistan.

Amnesty International's 2026 report Lives Cut Brutally Short lists ABOLFAZL MEHDIPOUR, age 18, fatal incident 21 September 2022, Babol, Mazandaran. HRANA's report on the first 82 days of the protests lists Abolfazl Mehdipour Roshan, about 20, Babol, 21 September 2022, bullet wound, as #164 in its list of the dead (Confirmed).
