He was shot dead by security forces in Lasht-e Nesha on Saturday, 7 Aban 1401 (29 October 2022), during the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising. The Iran Human Rights Society's list of 662 people killed in the 1401 protests records him as no. 173: “Amir (Aref) Ghorbanpour, Lasht-e Nesha, Rasht, killed by security agents' fire, 7 Aban”. The society's consolidated list, under Gilan Province, records “Aref (Amir) Ghorbanpour, from Lasht-e Nesha, father's name Moharram Ali, killed by gunfire, 7 Aban”. Persian Wikipedia's table of the 1401 dead (no. 83) records a combat bullet in Lasht-e Nesha on the same date.
The National Council of Resistance of Iran lists him under Rasht, 29 October 2022, in its statement of 11 November 2022 (no. 308), its December 2022 bulletin (no. 346) and its cumulative lists of January and February 2023 (no. 348 and no. 350). Iran Nabard's daily roll names him among those killed on Saturday, 7 Aban, and the Mazar-e Shaghayeghha memorial of graves records his resting place in Lasht-e Nesha.
