Borna Dehghani was a 17-year-old Baha’i student from Karaj. Hengaw Organization for Human Rights verified that on Friday, 9 January 2026, during public protests in Karaj, he was fatally shot by Iranian authorities.

Hengaw described him as a dedicated student who had completed training at a private educational institute known as “Red Palace.” A 2021 video obtained by Hengaw shows him at age 12 discussing skills in emotional awareness, social engagement, media literacy, financial understanding, and academic development. Hengaw also noted the wider pattern of systematic pressure and discrimination facing Iran’s Baha’i community.
