Record & remembrance

Dates, places, sources, and messages — the same details as the full profile, kept on this page.

Hassan Shakhshi (Persian: حسن شاخصی, also spelled Shakhesi) was a married father of two children, aged 16 and 13, who lived in the Tehranpars area of eastern Tehran. He owned a small workshop that made ducting for evaporative air coolers.

On the evening of Thursday, 18 Dey 1404 (8 January 2026), during the nationwide protests, security forces opened fire on the crowd in Tehranpars. A close friend told Kayhan London that when Hassan saw people around him being wounded and killed, he shouted, "Don't be afraid, I am your bodyguard," and carried several wounded protesters out of the line of fire into the parking garages of nearby buildings. As he went back for the next person, he was shot in the heart from behind with live ammunition and died.

According to the same friend, the family came under pressure to have him declared a Basij "martyr," which his wife firmly refused, and his body was taken out of the morgue and buried under pressure. Hengaw Organization for Human Rights verified his death among people killed by direct fire in Tehranpars and Tehran on 8 and 9 January 2026, and Iran International's Javidnaman memorial records him in Tehranpars on 18 Dey. Reports differ on his age: Kayhan London gives his birth year as 1365 (about 39), while Javidnaman lists him as 46.
