Mehdi Ghorbandost, also listed as Mehdi Ghorban-Dost Varanlou, was an 18-year-old from Chenaran in Razavi Khorasan Province. Memorial lists and Iran International’s Javidnaman remember a teenager taken on one of the uprising’s bloodiest nights in that Kurdish-populated county.
On the evening of Wednesday, 7 January 2026 (17 Dey 1404), Iranian government forces opened direct fire on protesters in Chenaran. The National Council of Resistance of Iran named him among five identified dead from that night; Wikipedia’s tally of the Dey 1404 uprising and Iran-pedia’s Chenaran pages record the same date and place. Hengaw’s reporting on the Chenaran killings, also cited in the memorial of Mehdi Validoost, places him with Mohammad Reza Gorouhi, Morteza Jahanbakhsh and Rouhollah Setareh-Moshtari.
Eighteen years old, Chenaran, live fire, remembered with the others who fell that night.
