During the nationwide protests, he was shot in the heart in the Haft Hoz area of Narmak in eastern Tehran. Iran International's Javidnaman memorial dates his killing to Thursday, 18 Dey 1404 (8 January 2026); Witness Report's narrative gives 19 Dey (9 January). He was buried in Behesht-e Zahra cemetery in Tehran.

After his death, his family refused an offer from agents of the Islamic Republic of several billion tomans and a monthly salary in exchange for declaring Pouya a "government martyr".
