Mostafa Shabani (Persian: مصطفی شعبانی) was a 45-year-old resident of Majboorabad / Eslamabad in Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province. Neighbours knew him as a gentle man living with a mental and physical disability; Hengaw describes an acute mental impairment that left him unable to read the danger around him.
On the evening of Thursday, 26 Aban 1401 (17 November 2022), people gathered near the Shabani family home after his brother Kamil Shabani had been detained. Security forces stormed the area and opened heavy fire. Mostafa stayed where he was and was hit in the left chest by two Kalashnikov war bullets at close range. He was taken to Alipour (Qolipour) Hospital in Bukan and died of those wounds. Authorities pressed the family with threats about Kamil and a written undertaking to bury him quietly.
Hengaw named him among five Bukan residents killed by live fire that evening and the early hours of the next day, together with Amjad Enayati, Ghafour Moloudi, Hiva Janjan and Hezhar Mam Khosravi. Kurdpa records that mothers of the Bukan dead later gathered at his grave on his birthday, 19 Farvardin.
