Arash Behfar, known to those close to him as Majid, lived in the Nezamabad neighborhood of Tehran. Hengaw Organization for Human Rights verified that he was killed by Iranian government forces during the protests there on Friday, 9 January 2026 (19 Dey 1404).
People close to him told Iran International that on the evening of 19 Dey he confronted four agents in Nezamabad, who shot him in the back several times at close range. The agents did not let anyone help him, but the shouts of his cousins and a crowd of people forced them to disperse. One of his cousins carried him home on his shoulders, and neighbors tried to remove the pellets from his body. He was bleeding internally, and at about one in the morning an ambulance took him to Imam Hossein Hospital, where he died.
His funeral was held under a heavy security presence after the family was made to promise a silent ceremony, and agents prevented the family from placing a gravestone bearing his details. Iran International reported his age as 41, while its Javidnaman memorial lists him as 32.
Hengaw identified him among Tehran protest victims reported with Daniel Maranki and others killed by direct fire the same day.
